A combi (combination) boiler provides both central heating and instant hot water from a single, compact unit — with no need for a separate hot water cylinder or cold water tank in the loft. They're the most popular choice for smaller homes and flats in the UK, and modern combi boilers are highly efficient.

A system boiler works with a separate hot water cylinder to store heated water, making it ideal for larger homes with multiple bathrooms where several taps and showers may be used simultaneously. The boiler heats water and stores it, providing a strong, consistent flow whenever it's needed.

Time for a Check-Up?
Don't wait for a breakdown to call an engineer. These are the warning signs that your heating system needs professional attention — the sooner you act, the less it's likely to cost.
If the top of your radiators is cold but the bottom is warm, it's likely they need bleeding. If the bottom is cold too, there may be sludge build-up — a power flush could be the answer.
If you're regularly topping up your boiler pressure, there's likely a leak somewhere in the system. Left unattended, this can cause serious damage to your boiler and pipework.
Banging, kettling, gurgling or whistling from your boiler or pipes is never normal. These sounds often indicate limescale build-up, airlocks or failing components that need attention.
